About Richard Taylor
Richard Taylor holds the rare distinction of being a practicing artist, a graduate art historian, the author of 15 books on art techniques and a professional art teacher.
Richard has taught at Heatherley’s School of Art in Chelsea, run workshops for Winsor and Newton, demonstrated at the Artists and Illustrators Materials show in London and has worked as a Teaching Consultant to Essex Local Authority. Richard has also been involved with training art teachers at Anglia Ruskin University.
As well as being the author of many books on art techniques, Richard also undertook the role of Consultant to the Art Course magazine (de Agostini) devising the educational content for issue 1– 99, contributing articles and testing the ’cover mounted’ materials. Richard has also written regular articles for the Artists’ and Illustrators’ Magazine, The Artist, Leisure Painter and has also written for The Guardian.
Richard’s own work has been exhibited at the Minories Gallery, Colchester, The Mall Galleries, London, and The London Guildhall Gallery.
Many people, however, will know Richard for his best selling instructional books ‘Natural Watercolours,’ ‘The Watercolourists Guide to Painting Buildings’ and ‘Drawing and Painting Buildings’ as well as recognising Richard’s teaching videos that accompany the books and magazines.
Richard was one of the ‘founding tutors’ at the Watershed Studio and is renowned for his personal and accessible teaching style.
